Getting Started

Joining a new club on your own isn't always easy, especially if you don't know other players. At Western, we make a special effort to welcome new members and to help them to get to know others. When you join, we'll offer to arrange a game with an existing member. He or she will also show you around, and introduce you to other players. We run "show up and play" sessions twice a week, every week of the year - it's a great way to play without having to organise anything.

We have monthly tennis and squash leagues, organised in divisions so you can start playing immediately with others of your own standard. And with promotion and relegation at the end of each month, you'll always be meeting new players. We can place you in a coaching group with others of your own standard. You don't need previous playing experience. If you're a beginner, we'll teach you how. We have comprehensive coaching programmes for all grades, including lessons for complete beginners. Our coaching staff includes a full-time coach, and several part-time coaches. And of course, you'll find plenty of people of your own standard to practise with.

We have lots of men's and women's teams, both tennis and squash competing regionally and nationally. If you're competitively inclined there'll be a team to go for.

A good social life is as important to us as a good playing environment. We run tennis and squash tournaments throughout the year. You can meet friends in the bar at any time, or bring along your own friends for a drink. The club has a large junior section, mostly playing tennis. There are coaching programmes for juniors, both after school and at weekends, and there are also junior tennis teams.
